About Me......
My name is Robert Hutchins and I am happily married, going on 10 years. I am the Father of 3 kids with special needs. We were blessed with autism for both boys and spina bifida for my daughter. Every day is different and challenging for us as a family.
We went through some very tough times along this journey. I was un-employed for a while, plus during that time, my youngest son started regressing by his first birthday and right before he turned two years old, we got the autism diagnosis. It was a tough pill to swallow not only for me, but for my wife as well! Somewhere during the process, I had become very bitter and angry at the world, as well as being angry at God, for letting this happen to my youngest son! After awhile, even though I probably applied to over 5,000 jobs during the time I was un-employed, the unemployment benefits eventually ran out. I think that was probably the most miserable I have ever been.
At some point, I began to get out of the major rut that I was in. Things started seeming a little more manageable. My son eventually started talking around age 4 1/2 years old. He has made huge progress in many areas and has had some set backs in others. We also found out that my step son is also on the autism spectrum and then found out some things about my daughter with her spina bifida effects that were not easy for any of us. There was good, yet there was also bad. After I turned that corner, I decided to stay positive. I did eventually find a part time job in my field and I also got back into college. I had previously gotten my associates degree almost 20 years ago, but then life happened and between work and life, I did not press forward with pursuing my bachelors degree.
I now have a full time job, still in my field and am about 18 hours away from achieving my bachelors degree in business management. All of our kids still have their struggles, but they keep fighting and keep making it through each and every day. All of this brings me to the point of this website.
This website is about staying in the game even when life kicks you in the gut and you want to give up and quit. Life is all about how you view it. If you view it as bad, then it will be bad. If you view it as good, then it will be good. If you want something in life, set that goal and go get it. Don't let anyone or anything stop you. Dream big and chase that dream until you catch it. Be willing to make sacrifices and to put in the hard work. No one is going to hand you anything. You must have a dream, set goals and take massive amounts of action to get to where you want to be.
